5 skincare mistakes you don't know you're making
You take care of your skin, you conscientiously apply your treatments — and yet you don't see results. Often, it's not the products that are to blame, but rather everyday mistakes that damage the skin without us realizing it. Here are the 5 most common, and how to correct them.
Mistake #1: Neglecting sun protection on cloudy days
UVA rays penetrate clouds and windows. They are responsible for premature skin aging — wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, loss of elasticity — even on sunless days. Failing to protect yourself daily means accumulating invisible damage that only becomes apparent years later.
The solution: Incorporate a minimum SPF 30 sunscreen into your morning routine, every day. If you are exposed to the sun, reapply every two hours.
Mistake #2: Over-cleansing your face aggressively
A cleanser that is too stripping, an alkaline soap, or an overly vigorous motion can disrupt the skin's hydrolipidic film. This film is its first line of defense: without it, the skin dries out, becomes irritated, and paradoxically produces more sebum to compensate. This is one of the most common skin-damaging mistakes, yet the simplest to correct.
The solution: Opt for a gentle, sulfate-free, pH-neutral cleanser. Massage gently with your fingertips, rinse with lukewarm water, and pat dry without rubbing.
Mistake #3: Touching your face and picking at imperfections
Our hands constantly carry bacteria and impurities. Every contact with the face transfers them directly to the skin. As for pimples, picking them worsens inflammation, prolongs healing, and can leave permanent scars.
The solution: Become aware of this often unconscious habit. To treat an imperfection, use an anti-pimple patch or a targeted lotion instead of your fingers.
Mistake #4: Improperly moisturizing your skin
Skipping the moisturizing step or using a cream unsuitable for your skin type is one of the mistakes that damage the skin in the long term: dull complexion, accentuated fine lines, increased sensitivity. Oily skin that is poorly moisturized produces even more sebum to compensate.
The solution: Identify your skin type. Light, non-comedogenic texture for combination to oily skin, richer formula for dry skin. Apply morning and evening after cleansing. A hydrating mask once a week, like our [Korean Collagen Mask](product link), can make a real difference for skin lacking radiance and firmness.
Mistake #5: Sleeping with makeup on or using expired products
At night, the skin regenerates. Sleeping with makeup on clogs pores, prevents this regeneration, and promotes the appearance of pimples and blackheads. As for expired products, their active ingredients degrade, and their formulas can become laden with bacteria, causing irritation and reactions.
The solution: Always remove your makeup every evening, even if you're tired. A double cleanse is ideal for removing all traces of makeup and pollution. For your products, check the open jar symbol (followed by a number in months) — if in doubt, throw it out.
